I recently traded my Ruger LCR for a Smith 642. It was mainly due to lack of confidence in the firearm/trigger function. I was having issues with the cylinder "skipping" or "spining" if I happened to short stroke the trigger during live fire or even dry fire for that matter. This would occasionaly leave a live round in the gun. I sent the gun back to Ruger to have it looked at and they replaced the cylinder then called it repaired. After that it still did it. I could short stroke the trigger forever and have it advance the cylinder and not fire. I called and spoke with tech support for almost an hour audibly showing him my issue. He finally said it was possible for the trigger to short stroke the gun based on the design. I tried to work with it as I liked the gun and finally had enough. I am not sure if it is a design flaw or what. Also, I was able to get a another LCR to duplicate my issue at the local GS.

Maybe its just me and how I pull the trigger being mainly used to my semi, but my new 642 will not spin the cylinder with a short stroke. The hammer falls each time I pull/release the trigger as I was inclined to believe.

I just felt inclined to pass this along....

I recently purchased a LCR and the same thing happened to me....."freewheeling and shortstroking". I like the LCR, but this problem was very problematic as it caused me to lose confidence in the weapon. So much so that I just purchased a 642 yesterday.

Whew.....glad I was not imagining things.

I just had a trigger job done on mine and even my arthritic mother-in-law can smoothly pull the trigger!

At first I thought you were talking about the problem with LCR and not the 642. I picked up a LCR in 357 at the shop the other day and noticed that the cylinder rotated backwards. I opened the cylinder and closed it and the problem went away. Maybe it has to do with closing it properly.

Upon closer review of the post, I see it was with the LCR.
