Never heard of and M&P 342 but S&W made a scandium frame .38 special with the 342 designation. If you are talking about the same revolver, S&W doesn't make it anymore.

I stand corrected, did a search and apparently it was a limited run. It basically is a 340 M&P that is .38 special only. However, S&W did make a 342 that weighted like 11 oz. and was one of the first scandium guns chambered for .38 special.

Yeah... best I could find is that it was made for police agencies that won't allow .357 as back up ammo. I really liked the M&P 340 but don't ever plan on shooting .357 through it... just .38 special +P. I figured if I could get my hands on one of these it would be pretty cool, and fit my need.

You might not like shooting it very much. I have a S&W 442 in .38 Spl that I love to carry and hate to shoot. It's not a gun you're going to want to shoot through a box of 50 cartridges with. Works great, easy to carry, nasty shot bite.

Well it's not really gonna be a range gun. It will be my work BUG. So only shoot it to maintain qualifications and practice. I am aware that it has some bite to it... but that's exactly why I don't wanna shoot .357s through it.

I see Botach Tactical have plenty of them on Gunbroker. I wouldn't mind the M&P342 to be my BUG.
